Has anyone researching Johnson any links with Corfu please?

My great grandfather Peter Johnson was born there in 1833. I have checked the various Ionian registers and have been unable to find any reference to his birth.

The first UK reference I have found for him is his marriage in Swansea, Glamorgan on 29th March 1863 to Elizabeth Evans. His father is stated as John Johnson, Farmer on this certificate but as the British had a significant military presence in Corfu during the early 1800s his father might well have been in the military.

Peter's occupation was a Mariner and his home port following his marriage was Swansea.

Any information or suggestions would be much appreciated as I've been unable to break down this brick wall for several years.

Good luck with your research!
Best wishes Yvonne
