The SIVETER name and its variants, SIVITER, SIVITOR, etc. (usually the same family, created with a spelling error on a birth certificate!), is thought to be a corruption of the French SYLVESTRE, indicating someone who lives in the woods. It's possible that this name came over with the Normans in the 11th century. The name is centred principally in the counties of Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire in England, but there is a small cluster in central and south London, with no apparent link to the Midlands grouping. There is a record of a John Siveter, who was christened at St Katherine's By The Tower in London in 1671, but I have not yet connected him to the London Siveters of the 19th and 20th centuries. Note: the above is what I have learnt from researching the name, is incomplete and may contain errors.
