Mysterious Changes of Surname

RogerWarren Report 22 Oct 2008 21:58

In the village of Marnhull, Dorset there lived a family who changed their Surname.

Around 1500 they appeared to be Warren, then Sidlinge (various spellings) then several generations known as Sidlinge alyas Warrin, then by the end of the century Warren alyas Sidlinge and finally by around 1620, simply WARREN.

Circumstantially it seems likely that they were an illegitimate family arising from one of the male Warrens of Fifehide living nearby. If this was proven it would lead back to Sir Richard Fitzroy Warren an illegitimate son of King John

My Warren family is clearly traceable to Christopher Warren b 1623 who descended from the Sydliges who could not make up their minds on their surname !

If anyone has further information on the Sidlinges I would like to hear from them to exchange data and, in the case of my Warrens three identical y-DNA profiles.

A. Roger Warren b.Bristol, UK. 1932. ([email protected])
