From one source,the name Redford was originally Reedford.They originated in County Durham and were a big fishing family.They got into a spot of trouble and this was a time when transportation to Australia was the norm.Subsequently the Reedford family settled over there and over time the name was shortened to Redford.I found this out after a phone conversation with a guy at the cable company who was from Australia and yes,his surname was Redford
