Pooley is quite an unusual surname. My mother's maiden name is Pooley and obviously her father before her. He had 9 sisters so it must tie in with a lot of others although their names were changed by marriage. They all originate from the South London area Old Kent Road Bermondsey etc. One of his sisters went to Canada (Emmy) the other names we know are Mary (who died leaving children Dolly, Alice, Lily who were looked after by their grandmother when their father Albert Saunders committed suicide following his wife's death. I understand Lily died during the second world war. Other names are Annie, Florrie, Lizzie, Sarah, Ada and Ellen. All these ladies had the Pooley name as their maiden name. If this rings bells with anybody I would be pleased to hear from them. My mother (the daughter of Richard Henry Pooley who had nine sisters as outlined above) is now 83 and I would love to find out more about her family line. Many thanks.
