Member Since: February 2003 Posts: 1 Send Message	Ponting comes from the word pontiff, meaning somthing to do with the Pope. and is also to do with a pontoon a sort of raft. We picked up ours from the U.S.A and one of our ancestors was the photographer who went to the Artic With SCOTT his name was Herbert Ponting.
