Despite help from folks I still cant find Robert Pepper in Canada.
He was born in Kirkcudbright in 1884 the son of William Pepper and Marion Straiton, William from Battle and Marion from Kirkcudbright. I was told he left KKd and emigrated to Winnipeg, He was my Great Uncle and is my brick wall.

Any help really appreciated

Found this but I don't know if it is your Robert.

Edited - just checked the image and I think it is your Robert, his occupation is gardener and he is bound for Winnipeg to join his Uncle, Fred Pepper.

I think this is your Robert. I have checked the census image and his middle name is actually William (not Berthan as it has been transcribed) and the surname is Pepper.

Just curious, LL, as to where your 1911 census came from because on Automated Genealogy he's transcribed Robert William.

Hi Margaret,

It's from Ancestry.

There's a marriage in Winnipeg of Robert William Pepper and Maggie Moir 27 June 1908. Could it be them?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 1 Sep 2008 14:38

There's also a death in Winnipeg of Robert William Pepper 24 July 1933, age 50. His birthdate is given as 3 July 1883.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 1 Sep 2008 14:42

LL, I wonder if Maggie or Margaret Moir was on the same ship? It would confirm that marriage.

Good thinking Margaret,

I will take a look to see if I can see her.

LL

Langdon Lass

Langdon Lass Report 1 Sep 2008 14:57

She is there, her name is above Robert's on the passenger list. Her name was entered as Maggie Moir and Maggie has been crossed through and replaced with Margaret.

Great to find this thread, even though it's old now!

I'm keen to find out if Robert & Margaret had children, can anyone help? Margaret is my gg aunt and I have lots on her tree if anyone interested, but don't know much about what happened in Canada.

(She is actually 10 years older than Robert... must have shaved a few years off when she met him, and who can blame her!)

Tracy - welcome to the boards.

As this thread is old as you have already noticed I doubt the posters will see your post - most of them probably are no longer members.

Start a thread of your own asking for help in finding what you want to know and someone will try to help you if they can. Include "Canada" in your title and those with access to Canadian records will hopefully see your thread.

[Note same plot #s - I think "Death: Jul., 1938" is a mistranscription of 1933]

McIntosh Ave is 2 blocks N of Elmwood Cemetery - Dearborn & Stanier (also on 1921 page) are just E of cemetery.
The Cemetery itself is abt 3km NE of Portage & Main, on the E bank of the Red R.

Many thanks for the advice Kath, and the great information mgnv (plus 1921 doc).

Sadly looks like no children but at least tidied up some loose ends. And I'll be back to the boards now I know what to do!
