Apparently, Maclachlan, the Celtic root of the Irish variant Mcloughlin has Norse origins. Lachlan was a Gaelic word for Lowland, as Norway was referred to. therefore Mcloughlin has the meaning Son of a Norwegian, maybe, don't quote me!! Oh by the way on a trip to Scotland i was told that head of clan Maclachlan is a woman called Marmie Maclachlan of Castle Lachlan, Strathlachlan. Close to Helensburgh apparently. If that is a lot to take in, her son is supposed to be called Lachlan MacLachlan!! Can any one confirm this? |
