Find Ancestors

I am trying to find relatives of my great grandmother Ellen Hurley, probably born 1860s/1870s. All I know about her is that she married my great grandfather Sidney Smith in East London - they had 7 children. Her brother was Alec Hurley the music hall singer (second husband of Marie Lloyd) and her mother was called Maria (c1837 - 1902).

I don't know her mother's maiden name or her father's first name and would love to find out. Also, it would be very interesting to find out if she had any other siblings and hear any other family details etc (and of course discover relatives I didn't know existed).

Hello Gill,

Your Gt-Grandmother Ellen also had at least one other brother, Alfred Lewis Hurley (b.1864), and he married my Gt-Aunt Henrietta Vince 15th October 1895. Ellen's mother Maria E. Turpin married John Daniel Early in 1854 (they changed their name to Hurley after Alec's success), and she was living with Alfred & Henrietta when she died on the 27th September 1902 - Stepney - London.
I too would like to trace any other living Hurleys who might have some family photographs.

I am the great great granddaughter of Albert & Henrietta Hurley. My Grandma was their daughter Violet Hurley and her daughter Irene is my mother Irene. I have been doing my family tree in Ancestry.co.uk under my current family name of Bywaters. I have been stuck for ages on who Maria's maiden name was but finally thanks to you Peter I have found it. Thank you so much!!
