My husbands grandad George Warriner who was adopted by the Horner Family from Nafferton East Yorkshire. I think George came from the workhouse as a baby. I don't know which one. George was born 1885 his mum was unwed at the time. That is all I know. I would just like some background & hopefully there maybe some of his adopted family still in Nafferton. Can anyone help please.

Hello everyone, no I don't know if there is a birth certificate anywhere in our family, I have hie marriage certificate to Eleanor Hayward in 1915 when they were both 29 years old, on the cert his surname is down as George Warriner Horner, Eleanor wanted it put on this way as she was worried in case the marriage wasn't legal

Angela - can you please delete your new posting - duplicates are not allowed - it causes people to repeat research for you which is not fair

Angela,

Shirley has already found his birth for you in the Driffield registration district under the name Warrener - spelling of names often changed because so many people were illiterate in those days.

I agree Warriner/Warrener is the right one.I have several certs that are not the correct names mainly due to the old writing being mistranscribed.

My grandmother has a middle name May but her birth cert is registered as Mary. It also says Mary on the one they sent me. Correct parents though.
