Can anybody help me with further information on my relatives. English origins Yorkshire ggg-grandparents late 1700's early 1800's. JOHN HOPTON + HANNAH HARTLEY and SAMUEL BOOTH + SARAH SHARP. John & Hannah had a son BENJAMIN HOPTON born in 1827 Halifax, Yorkshire. The men were all coal miners. Samuel & Sarah had a daughter REBECCA BOOTH born in 1837 Registered in Dewsbury, Yorkshire. BENJAMIN HOPTON married REBECCA BOOTH, 27 Feb 1853 in Halifax and are shown to be living in Brighouse on their marriage certificate. The 1851 Brighouse census shows BENJAMIN HOPTON and his brothers William (b1814/1815 Dewsbury), Joseph (b1820/21 Flanshaw Hill), Squire (b1832/1833 Halifax) all living together in Brighouse with the head of the household (mother) not listed, their father (John) having died in 1844 aged 67 years. Benjamin & Rebecca had a daughter ESTHER born 1854 Bradford. Benjamin+Rebecca+Esther+Squire HOPTON emigrated to Australia in 1855, departing Liverpool aboard the clipper 'Donald Mckay' 6th June 1855. Any information on my ggg-grandparents JOHN HOPTON + HANNAH HARTLEY and SAMUEL BOOTH + SARAH SHARP would be most welcome. Kind regards Patricia Hopton (Queensland, Australia) |
