I'm trying to find out about the Hewitt side of my family. My great grandfather John William Hewitt (sometimes known as William John Hewitt) was born in Cork, Ireland in 1892. He had three sisters; Bertha who married an army officer based in India, Elizabeth or "Lizzie", Ellen or "Nellie", and two brothers; Albert John Hewitt and Henry Hewitt. His father was also called John Hewitt and he was a soldier who apparently died in the Boer War in around 1900. His mother, Annie Lewcock, remarried to a Harry Collins and had a daughter Grace Collins. My great grandfather settled in Henley-on-Thames, but prior to this he had been a student at the Duke of Yorks Royal Military School in Chelsea, London, and had fought in the first world war in the Lincolnshire regiment. If anyone has any information on him or his family, or thinks they may be related in some way, please contact me. |
