I believe the name HANSON originates in Scandanavia. Spelt with an 'O' this version of the name probably comes from Denmark or possibly Iceland - the derivation being Hans' son (son of Hans), as many Scandanvian names end in 'son'. Spelt with an 'E', i.e. HANSEN probably indicates origins lie in Norway, or even Germany. During the Viking invasions, many of the "visitors" settled in the north of England, mostly in the Yorkshire area, which is why Hanson is such a common name in that part of the country. If anyone with the surname HANSON living in, or has relatives living in Yorkshire, particularly in the Keighley area, I would like to to hear from them.
