I have a branch of the Hancock family in Swaffham Bulbeck, Cambs, alive and well with children being born 1740 onwards. My branch - CHARLES HANCOCK bn 1794/5 married Elizabeth Rolph and moved to Ipswich, Suffolk where he became a fruiterer and Confectioner. Charles has a son - JAMES HANCOCK bn Ipswich 1826 fruiterer & confectioner - who married a CLARA HANCOCK bn 1834 in Hertford, and is the daughter of a James Hancock who was also born in Hertford in 1795. I have checked the road system of the day and the connections between Cambs and Herts are much better than Cambs to Ipswich. Has anyone any idea if there is a connection. I feel there must have been a fairly close one to enable them to know each other well enough to marry! |
