I am trying to find information on 2 of my father's sisters. I know that they were born in Glenmavis Lanarkshire Scotland. Their names as I know of them were: Maggie Graham born 1882 Jeannie Graham born 1889 Their parents were: George & Catherine (Katie) Graham (nee Chalmers) All I know of them is that they went to live in Canada in the early 1900's I think to Ottawa. I have no other information on them or who they each married. What I do know about the other siblings is: Mary married a William Wilson 11/12/1908 in Lanarkshire Scotland. Agnes married a John Coull in Lanarkshire also. Both Mary & Agnes moved to NZ with their husbands & families. Katie married David Liddell on the 15/07/1904 in Lanarkshire & they then made their home in Australia. John married a lass by the name of Jane ? & lived their lives in Airdrie Scotland. Alexander born 1895 I have no information as yet on. William born 1897 firstly married then divorced a Catherine Nisbet in Airdrie Scotland, He migrated to Australia where many years later he married Caroline O'Connor. I would appreciate any info that anyone has. Telly

I think this may possibly be the correct person, Ontario rings a bell in my memory. The age certainly fits for Maggie. All I know is from memory as a child my father speaking of a sister who married & moved to Canada & the other sister following but sadly that is all I ever knew about them. Thank you for the info you have found out. Telly

With the info Viv found, we can easily drill down from: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/index-e.html to get the images. For 1911, we search first at the AG link on the census index page to find:
1911 Census of Canada Home / 1911 / Ontario / York South / 33 Toronto / page 23
then at the LAC site since I can never save AG's images properly, to find: http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1911/pdf/e002039080.pdf (search for geog loc=york south, sd#=33 gets the ED - search help is useful for explaining answer fields if you're unused to Canadian censuses)
You can search for Parthenia 1906 at: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/passenger/001045-100.01-e.php and select the appropriate voyage - there's only a couple of pages of images, so it's no bother finding her - she's dead last. Right click on the image, then save as e003662687.jpg or maybe MaggieGrahamImmig.jpg or whatever. I'm not real certain this is your Maggie: her a=25, she's born in Canada and is a returning Canadian, accompanied by two older Graham's (Robert a=42 + Thomas a=31, both Canadians & farmers).

To Vivien & Mgny, Thank you for your efforts in trying to help me. I will look at those sites. I think if I could find who Jeannie Graham married it would help, my father spoke of one of his sister's being married to a man of german nationality who moved to Canada, the family records show that Maggie was born in 1882 which makes her the correct age for the 1911 census & Jeannie was born in 1889. I can't imagine she would have married before1907 or later if that was the case the 1906 sailing would not be correct. Telly

If she married in Scotland you should be able to get a copy of her marriage cert from the Scotlands people web site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk You need credits for it but they are not expensive - £6 gets 30 credits and it costs 1 credit to view a page of possible certtificates - put in as much info as possible to narrow the list, and then 5 credits to view the actual scans of the certificates.
Scans are available for births more than 100 years ago, marriages more than 75 years and deaths more than 50.
Good luck in find her

As you've no doubt seen, the Maggie Graham whose census URL I posted was born June 1882, which is at odds with your posted dob, so probably this is not her. It's not unusual for the year to be off, but I've never seen the month off before.

Just for accuracy, William's wife divorced him. The divorce records are available at The National Archives of Scotland - you will find them by searching the online catalogue. You can obtain a quote by email to purchase these (or view them in Edinburgh, but you need to order in advance as they are stored in a different building). They may give an address for William, perhaps in Australia.

Thank you again for your efforts in helping me. I have the documents for William's divorce & his re-marriage in Australia.
I am missing what happened to two of William's sisters, Maggie & Jeanie. I know they both settled in Canada & I think it was either Ontario or Ottawa area.
I don't know when they left Scotland, as listed above, I have found the marriage of Maggie but am unable at the moment to trace the marriage of Jeanie, I believe he was of German Nationality.
I have all the details for Mary & Agnes Graham who migrated to NZ with their spouses & families. William who came to Australia.
The other member of the Graham family I have lost is Alexander Graham D.O.B 1895, have no idea what happened to him, have heard he may have gone to Ireland but so far no trace of him. Telly

I do not know when. I know that Maggie & her husband went to Canada as well, I am sure they all lived around the same area but I have no proof, nor can I find any trace of any of them. To Ann of Green Gables, many thanks for your help & understanding. I hope I have now stopped the confusion. To all the kind researchers who have been of help to me over the past 2 years, I never realised there was so much involved in doing family tree when I set out to look for my ancestors, Without your help here & there I don't think I would have been as far back into the past as I am now. Thank you all for being there for novices like me. Thel

Scotland) & Georgina LEVEN, married Elizabeth SCOTT, 25, operator, Scotland, 90 King Edward Ave., d/o Joseph SCOTT (b. Scotland) & Elizabeth INNIS, witn: Harold L. Obviously one can't tell from this if illegible=Jeannie, but it does seem likely that Elizabeth Scott would share her dwelling with a woman friend.

Some new information has come to me on Maggie Chambers Graham & Jeanie Hamilton Graham,
Maggie's husband John Wilson was the son of a John Wilson & Elizabeth McCuddin of Wigtownshire Scotland.
John & Elizabeth went to Wallace TWP Wellington City, Ontario, Canada & both died there. John Wilson on the 15/03/1915 & his wife Elizabeth McCuddin on the 7/7/1919. I think John and Elizabeth went to Canada around 1908 but can't find how they went. I cannot find when John & Maggie Wilson left Scotland I only know they also went to Wallace TWP Wellington City Ontario, Canada. I cannot find any further trace of them or if they had a family, Have tried checking the 1911 Canadian Census plus family.org etc but could find nothing so far.
Jeanie Graham I think went to Canada alone & met her husband there. Jean died in Hemet, California in 1978 (under the name of Jean Hartleib)
Jeanie's husband's name was Edward Charles Hartleib born 11/05/1886 in Dashwood, Huron, Ontario, Canada. He died in Hemet, California 07/10/1974
Edward Harleib was the son of Jacob Hartleib 21/09/1850 - 16/11/1938, Born in Tavistock East Zurra, Ontario & died in Zurick, Huron, Ontario, Canada. His mother was Christine Schroeder 25/12/1865 Alsace-Province, Germany. Died 13/04/1938 in Dashwood, Huron, Ontario, Canada.
I cannot find any marriage for Jeanie Graham & Edward Hartleib as yet, I think it was Canada but where & when???
They had a son. His name was Alva John (Bub) Hartleib He was born 24/12/1923 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada and died 6/6/1993 in London, Ontario, Canada
There could be more children I can't find.
I would appreciate any help I am stuck now have checked quite a few sites to no avail. Telly
