My great-grandfather William Gaskell started life as a Wigan pitboy, started a penny-a-week burial club, grew it into a large insurance business, then sold it to the Prudential, thereby making his fortune(which he then lost in LAncashire cotton) Of his 11 or 12 children, there were 4 daughters MAry Alice who married a Priestley, and had a daughter Doris; Elizabeth Hannah who married John SChollick Wilkin, Beatrice Ann who married a Maddock, Gertrude who married a Gerard, and several sons John Edward, James Thomas, Benjamin and Wiliam Gladstone, plus others. Would love information about any or all of these and their descendants - I know the info for Elizabeth Hannah Gaskell, since she was my grandmother - happy to share information.
