Robert Edson is my Great Grandfather. He is recorded as being born in 1823 in Shirebrook, Derbyshire. This is confusing since the present day Shirebrook, Derbyshire didnt emerge as a settlement of any size until after the sinking of the colliery towards the end of the 19th century. Until that time the area that became the present Shirebrook was part of Pleasley, Derbyshire. However, there was a place known as the 'Shirebrook Valley, Derbyshire' in the Mosborough area of derbyshire which moved into Yorkshire due to boundary changes. I am wondering if I should be looking for my Gr.Grandfather's origins in this area?
