hello, We have traced our tree back to the mid C19th, it has come to a halt with the name DERGES. We know that the name first appeared in Britain in 1688 with the arrival of William of Orange at Brixham, who then travelled to London via Exeter and Oxford. We believe the name may have originated from the singers of dirges at funerals. We would appreciate any info you may have re the name.
