My mother tells me that she was considered so beautiful that a bag of salt used to be hung around her neck to keep off the devil who might want to steal her for his own. She had a previous marriage to a soldier and they had a child. All three died of TB but Kathleen lived long enough to remarry and provide me with a mother. I have seen a very old photo of her and she is very tall, about 6ft!
