Hi, Can anyone help with some information about Francis Marshall Claridge, born1833, not sure where abouts although he lived in Nottingham once married. He married Jane Ann Clarke in 1860 and had 9 children, Selina ann,( my great grandmother), Francis , Violetta, Albert, Eliza ann,Bertha, Clara, Rosetta and Gertrude. I have part of the family in the 1871 census, and 1991 census although Francis senior is not present as the head of the family. Francis Claridge changed his name to Francis Marshall after the birth of his first 3 children. The first 3 were surnamed Claridge, the remaining children were Marshall. My grandmother told me he was a deserter from the army, hence the name change. Is there anywhere that you can get deserter records? Also can anyone help to find his parents and siblings? I would love to hear from anyone who can help or has a connection with this family.

1861 and he is Francis Marshall and noted as Blacksmith. Cannot figure out why but fairly sure it is the same man because of Selina Clarke who is noted as a boarder but I think she is Jane's mum as per the 1851 for Jane below and Jane also called her first daughter Selina.

As for Francis Claridge Senior

It looks as though Elizabeth died in 1852 and Francis Senior re-married to Ann Tilley in 1857

This could be Francis Senior. I can’t find another Francis Claridge in Daventry. From the Criminal Registers. Assault. Fine One Shilling.

You really do need to purchase the marriage certificate which Sylvia has posted below to be 100% sure that this is the correct person. Because of the change of name I am not absolutely certain that we are not dealing with two people here especially from 1861. Still cannot find any evidence of him having been in the Army but someone may be able to dig that up for you.

Ive gone ahead and ordered the marriage certificate of Francis and Jane ann so hopefully that will tell us something. Im sure it isnt the blacksmith family and that the cord wainer family is correct. As for being born in Birmingham, im not so sure that is correct too. Anyway, hopefully the marriage certificate will fill in a few blanks.
