challenger name very prominent in yorkshire & south of bristol since 16c.the somerset folks were often miners&many crossed the bristol channel to s wales during the early 1800s&then later to canada usa &australia.london also was also a magnet,george augustus challenger& his family from bath,being prominent piano makers during the late 1800s
