Brocklehurst is a toponymic name (IE: Place name)and the original bearers of the name Brocklehurst lived just outside Accrington in Lancashire and is still there today. Basically the name it is split into two main elements VIZ: 1)Brock or Broc(Badger) 2)Hurst or Hyrst (Woodlands or wooded hill) The 'le' being a clearing in ther wood so in total we have Badgers Wood. NOTE!! A company by the name of 'House of Names' gives a version that Brocklehurst is associated with the surname 'BROCAS' and also has Scottish origins. After Extensive researching I can not find ANY proof whatsoever of ANY connection with either the surname BROCAS or with SCOTLAND. The 'Scottish Genealogy Society' informed me that whilst they do have records of the Brocas name, they have no knowledge of the name Brocklehurst being associated with either Brocas or Scotland. Also the book 'The family of Brocas' makes NO reference to the name Brocklehurst.
