Trying to find Bate

My Grandmother Emma was born into the Bate family in 1875 in Tottenham Court Road, London. I have no record of her father's first names or past history. He married Emma French, who was the daughter of Thomas French, landlord of the Orange Tree pub in Richmond, Surrey. Bate died when my grandmother was about five, and her mother remarried to James Sedgwick; they lived in Kew Road Richmond. I would like to know more about the Bate family.
