Taken from Akeds Website (akedscom) What does the name Aked mean? Aked is an Anglo-Saxon name meaning "Dwellers by the Oak covered headland" Old English (ac headfod). Where does the name originate from? Definitely from Yorkshire and most likely from the around the Halifax of West Yorkshire How old is the name? It's difficult to put an age on the name, but here are some snippets that we've found about past Aked's 1379 AD - Johannes De Aykehered can be found on poll tax returns of Yorkshire 12th April 1609 - Richard Aked christened at Ryther, Yorkshire 1700-1800 AD - Family of Akeds reside at Kenshaw House, Luddendon near Halifax, Yorkshire Do the Aked's have a motto? Yes we do, Faire Sans Dire which means Deeds not Words. Why is the motto in French? Haven't a clue! I must admit that I was expecting something along the lines of "By-eck. "Not really sure sure why this is french though? I'd have expected something like "
